MILK- Los Angeles, CA

Over the weekend, I went to visit a gallery that was showing work from one of my favorite artists- Mark Ryden. His newest exhibit, "The Tree Show" is showing at the Michael Kohn gallery.

I guess if I can describe his work in 3 words it would be: haunting, beautiful, and twisted. His paintings are oil, and the brushstrokes are so incredibly smooth and precise. Pictures can't do his paintings justice.

After the gallery visit, just a little further down the street is MILK, a cafe and dessert place on the corner of Poinsettia and Beverly. Even though it was a gloomy day and quite chilly, we still wanted to try Milk! We nabbed the last parking spot behind the shared parking area behind El Coyote and walked a short distance to the small cafe.
Milk is very small, and all tables inside ( I think there were 4-5?) were all packed. Look up at the menu and you'll see that it consists of Salads, Sandwiches (around $9 each), Baked Goods like cookies/muffins, and cold desserts like sorbet, ice cream sandwiches, bon bons, milkshakes and ice cream bars.

I ordered the Banana Butterscotch Crunch for $3:

I also ordered the Berry Nilla bonbon (25 cents) but that got placed on my S.O's plate. He ordered the Chocolate Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich for $2.50.

These are a steal at this price. The Banana Butterscotch bar was HUGE and had a nutty and fresh banana taste to it with swirls of melty butterscotch within. The bon bon was only okay for me, as the center seemed to have melted and I wasn't quite sure to make of the taste. The Chocolate Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich was indeed verrry chocolately. Too chocolately for my tastes, but the "sandwich" part of it was very good. It's a macaroon, which gave a perfect, not too dense chew to it. I would love to have an ice cream sandwich on the next visit but with a different ice cream filling.

So despite it being a gloomy and chilly day, and we were shivering while eating our desserts sitting at the only available tables outside, it was still delicious. :)
