Naan & Kabob- Tustin, CA

I read about Naan & Kabob on Yelp.com when I was searching for Tustin eateries. I love Persian food and when I read that this place was delicious AND affordable, I had to try it out!

The small restaurant was not hard to find as they had a huge sign that explained all you need to know about the place.

NAAN & KABOB

PERSIAN FOOD
Open from 11 am- 9pm

DAILY LUNCH SPECIAL
From 11 am-3:30 pm

They are also next to a bar called the Godfathers that has a big green awning. We walked in and was standing around a little confused as to what to do next. It was busy at 1:15 pm and there was no server or waiter in sight.

We finally saw that there were menus at the counter in the back, so we figured it was an order first, sit down after kind of place. A friendly male appeared from the kitchen and asked if we were dining here or togo and when we answered the former, he gestured to a table and gave us our menus.

The first page showed the promising Daily Lunch Specials with prices ranging from $5.50 - $9. The rest of the menu consisted of higher priced items but none seemed to top $13 (wow!)

I ordered the Beef Koobideh from the Lunch Specials menu (it was either $5.50 or $6.50, I forget..)

^ 2 Beef Koobidehs on Lavash Bread with a juicy tomato. This koobideh was made of ground beef, onion and parsley. Very flavorful and tender. Although my tastebuds were getting a little bored after the first strip (it's a pretty large strip, and there's 2!) I like a variety of tastes so next time I shall try the one beef and one chicken dish to mix it up a little.

^ I took a bite from my co-worker's dish and I preferred hers to mine. She ordered the Beef Barg, which is a persian style of BBQ'd beef. This consisted of beef fillet tenderloins cooked with onion and olive oil. And the basmati and saffron rice was lovely, I can eat a large bowl of just that and I'll be a happy camper! Long grain, super fluffy and not sticky at all.

Not all of us ordered off the Lunch Specials menu, there was 1 who decided to venture off and ordered a Beef Barg and Chicken Koobideh plate that was about $12. The Beef Barg, as mentioned before is a BBQ'd fillet of beef tenderloin. The Chicken Koobideh, however, is minced chicken with seasonal ingredients and shaped back into a strip similar to my Beef Koobideh. It was served with a hefty mound of basmati/saffron rice and after taking a bite out of the chicken koobideh, I am sold.

Before our entrees arrived, we were served a small salad that was simply lettuce, tomato with an addictive dressing of lemon juice and olive oil. We were also served an extra basket of Lavash Bread with a plate of butter and a whole onion. We ate the lavash with the butter but did not know what to do with the raw onion. After reading Gustavo's review on this place, however, next time I'll be more prepared! Apparently you butter the lavash read, put a small chunk of onion on it, roll it up and chomp away.

Service was friendly but a little slow. Maybe it was due to the busy lunch hour, but we didn't get our ice waters until after our entrees arrived. They are very good at making you lust after your food though as waiters kept on walking by with plates that was unfortunately not ours.

Be forewarned that this place is strip mall-ish. It's not a grand and romantic atmosphere like Caspian, far from it actually, but the tables are clean and it has a mom & pop kind of feel.

This is my new favorite little Persian joint. I'm already planning another trip this week!
