What is my definition of Normal?
When it comes to Normalcy, the first thing I could think of is what society view as is acceptable, what is more typical, what is expected. The idea of Normal is different for everyone. It is typical for majority of the people in the society to reject the unusualness of what they deemed is familiar. People in the society are so wrapped into the idea of what they are comfortable with an ignorant mindset. Majority of the time, they aren't as understanding and accepting to things they don’t seem "normal" and generally shun them for their differences. What is normal is what they see on a daily basis and grew accustomed to it over time.
For a girl living under an Asian house hold, it is normal or me to be on top of things. For example, it's typical for American parents to be worried about drugs and social life and etc, but for asian parents, they're worried about grades and more grades... and grades.I was brought up to use my time wisely for the sake of my future instead of enjoying the time I have at the moment. Every teenager has to study at some point, but the goal is different. For me, I study for the sake of having good grades, to make my parent feel proud, to get me far in life. As for my friends, they study to get good grades or just study for whatever necessary to get through the day.
It's 'normal' for us teenagers to greet adults when we walk in. But the way to greet adults are different. For me, it is required to take your shoe off and when you walk in the house and greet properly but for my friends, it is okay to walk in the house with shoes on and greet casually. I find it awkward to walk in the house with shoes on while my friends are completely fine with it. I see my friends going over another friends house very comfortable and casual but for me I find it very uncomfortable because I have the anxiety that I'm intruding into their home and being a bother.
Eating is essentially the same, but the way we eat is different too. My family eat with chopsticks and all while my friends family is all about them forks!
All in all, it is how each individual is brought up and the environment they're grown accustomed to.
Same, I was also brought up to worry about grades and stuff. Instead of drugs and socialization.
